Guess Who's Turning 40?
BBC Kids Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Doctor Who with 40 Back-to-Back Episodes Beginning at 10 a.m. on November 23, 2003

PROGRAMMING NOTICE
Toronto. October X, 2003 - In celebration of its fortieth year on the small screen, BBC Kids will broadcast 40 back-to-back episodes of the science fiction hit, Doctor Who. From the moment it first aired November 23, 1963, Doctor Who has thrilled fans with the inter- galactic adventures of The Doctor and his time/space-travel machine, TARDIS. BBC Kids' Doctor Who Marathon begins on Sunday, November 23 at 10 a.m. ET and runs throughout the day and evening, ending Monday, November 24 at 6 a.m. ET.

"Forty years after it's debut, Doctor Who - airing exclusively in Canada on BBC Kids - consistently attracts loyal viewers and has spawned legions of followers and exhaustive fan sites," says John Gill, Senior V.P. "BBC Kids is celebrating this milestone in style, offering viewers the opportunity to relive The Doctor's many adventures while introducing a whole new generation of fans to the classic villains and monsters of intergalactic travel."

The longest-running science fiction series in history, Doctor Who has experienced many transformations throughout its 26-season run, including seven different actors in the title role. The newest, and perhaps longest-awaited, evolution is a fresh incarnation of the series currently in production for BBC One in the U.K.

BBC Kids' time travel marathon will feature nine favourite storylines featuring Tom Baker as The Doctor, including two stories written by the late Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). The marathon includes:

The Ark In Space (Sun., Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. ET)
The Doctor, Sarah and Harry discover the last survivors of the human race held in suspended animation on the now-deserted planet Earth.

Genesis of the Daleks (Sun., Nov. 23 at 12 p.m. ET)
The Doctor has a chance to alter the course of history by preventing the genesis of the Dalek race, saving the universe from their future tyranny.

Pyramids of Mars (Sun., Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. ET)
The TARDIS time-travel machine arrives on Earth in 1911, materializing inside an old priory owned by Egyptologist Marcus Scarman.

The Deadly Assassin (Sun., Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. ET)
The Doctor arrives on his home planet, Gallifrey, where he is accused of assassinating the Time Lord president.

The Robots of Death (Sun., Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. ET)
The TARDIS materializes on board a massive sandminer vehicle combing an alien world for precious minerals.

The Talons of Weng-Chiang (Sun., Nov. 23 at 9 p.m. ET)
Arriving in London at the end of the 19th century, the Doctor and Leela learn that hairs taken from the clothing of a dead body found floating in the Thames seem to have originated from a very large rat.

The Pirate Planet (Mon., Nov. 24 at 12 a.m. ET)
The TARDIS lands on Zanak - a planet run by an evil Cyborg pirate captain - that has been hollowed out and fitted with engines so that it can travel through space.

City of Death (Mon., Nov. 24 at 2 a.m. ET)
The Doctor and Romana are enjoying a holiday in Paris in 1979, when they become aware of a fracture in time.

Logopolis (Mon., Nov. 24 at 4 a.m. ET)
